Creating Your Secret Place

Let me show you how to create this space and time for God and why it is good.

What is a Secret Place?

A secret place can be a prayer closet or room in your home where you go to spend time with the Lord in prayer, study, worship and praise. It is a place to sit at His Feet and love on Him and hear His voice. Not everyone has a spare room, and the secret place isn't about a room, but about a time with God. But if you have the space to devote an area to your time all the better!

Your Secret Place

Only you know what space is available in your home. Currently I don't have a spare room but I will describe my former secret place to help you with ideas.
My secret place was a spare bedroom/office. This room had all my study material, a journal, my desk and computer, a cot and filing cabinet. My walls were pretty bare except for a bulletin board and map and a picture of Miracles of Jesus in Galilee.
I have a picture of Jesus holding His hand out to heal someone and it really gives me a point of contact when I need healing or pray for others' healing. Even in my home today this is a point of contact. I printed out some scripture and prayers to hang up too.
Music is an important part of worship and meditation and taking the time to line up the music starting with thanksgiving and praise followed by worship and soaking in the spirit is really important. The cot in this room was used for kneeling at the 'alter' or lying back and listening to what the Lord would say.
There are many things you can bring into your room that will make it a special place where not only will you come to meet God, but He will come to meet you!

Keeping it Special

Nothing should defile your secret place! This room or closet will come to be a very intimate space in which God is honored and worshiped. Allowing things in this place that do not honor God will quench the Holy Spirit.
2Co 6:14 ...and what communion hath light with darkness? 1Th 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
I also believe you should keep a prayer covering over this room (and of course your whole house and family) because people may use this room as a guest room in my case Really your whole home should be this way, but especially if you have a secret space just for you and God. The blood of Jesus is a very powerful thing. In the bible when God told the people to sacrifice a lamb and to sprinkle blood on the door posts of their home so that the death angel would PASSOVER, it was a type and shadow for today. Jesus was the ultimate and final sacrificial Lamb and His blood is our protection. You might like to see my testimony about that. But,you should always apply the blood in prayer over your family and home to keep the enemy out or make him flee. My prayer for that goes something like this
Father I plead the blood of Jesus over my house and family. I thank you for protecting me from the enemy. He has no power over my family or home and I command him to go in the name of Jesus. Amen

Spending Time with Him

Make time to spend with the Lord every day. Even if your pressed for time, you can go to pray for a few minutes. You will be surprised at the intimacy that is built between you and God when you honor Him in this way. Be sure to worship Him and thank God for not only what he has done, but what he will do. You can't out give God. The more you give, the more you get. He will begin to count on you meeting him there at a certain time and his presence will be felt immediately because he awaits you! You will not have to woo his presence because it will meet you at the door!! I have found this when I dedicate myself to get out of bed and go worship him whenever I awake in the night. Usually around 3 am. for me. God has honored many prayer requests in that time.
